Movie Reviews: Killer Joe, Hope Springs, The Campaign, 2 Days In New York

More movies, however this time, it’s August. If you don’t know what that means, well, you will be remiss to learn it is one of two months where studios typically unleash the worst movies of year–though I’m sure Premium Rush will prove us all wrong).

This week features a pair of such aforementioned blunders, but also two far more interesting films of very different content and tone. Hope Springs stars two very accomplished actors in a 30-year marriage that lacks intimacy and their subsequent attempts, awkward, funny, and serious, to try to get things back on track.

Killer Joe is by far the best movie of the week. It is a very dark and humourous story about a bumbling family trying to kill its matriarch in order to gain her life insurance. It is unforgettable.
