With only one full album and various EPs under their belts, The Jezabels, a pop-rock quartet from Australia fronted by the captivating Hayley Mary, are far more polished and poised than they probably should be. Their songs are ambitious and rousing, with a nod to the dramatic, and Mary’s vocals are sufficiently impressive.
I saw them at The Mod Club, and they are very entertaining, but I was left wanting more. There songs are fantastic, but do blend into one another, and there was little pause in between. My two favourite songs, both early demos offered as bonus tracks on their LP, did not make it into the lineup, sadly, as they omitted the catchier pop tunes for some heavier and more grandiose numbers.
Still, it was a fantastic show and it is easy to foresee them playing larger club and bigger venues next time they come through as they continue to tour the world.
