I came late to the Emma-Lee party, first being introduced to the very talented singer and songwriter in December of 2011 at the Andy Kim Christmas Show. It was there she played a couple songs, but it was more than enough to be hooked and curious to see a longer set. And so with much anticipation I ventured to The Drake Underground during Canadian Music Week to see her, and was not disappointed.
I would hope that there were lots of people there who had never heard her but who were compelled to seek more of her out. As I wrote in my review, there were a few songs I couldn’t help but imagine her playing at a rowdy country bar, singing on a top of a bar as people danced around, drinking, screaming, and fighting–or is that last part just Road House? A few others, however, are slower, more inspired, and captivating; a kind of variance necessary to put on an entertaining performance and keep people off their smartphones.

(Note: The show was in fact Friday, March 23rd. CMW has a tendency to feel as one never-ending day. Alas.)
