The great thing about making a movie based on a Shakespeare play is that it is already beautifully written. The problem comes of course in deciding how to best interpret it and what to change. Ralph Fiennes is great portraying the title tragic hero, but makes a few less-than-stellar directorial decisions. Still, if you love Shakespeare, Coriolanus is a worthy film. No shortage of drama and blood, it moves along at a good pace and all the actors, especially Brian Cox, bring the words off the page. It is definitely heavy, and requires of the viewer to fully engage, and aside from trying to create a modern world around the ancient setting, the movie satisfies.
