Movie Review: Pariah

As Ben Folds famously sang with a wink and a nod, “Y’all don’t know what it’s like, being male, middle-class and white.” I do, of course, and to ‘male’ and ‘white’ and I can also add ‘straight’ and ‘Millennial,’ as generic identifiers. This is all by way of introducing my review of ‘Pariah,’ a very compelling and well-acted film about a young black lesbian growing up in Brooklyn, seeking acceptance and striving to be herself. I was not optimistic that I could completely relate, but much to my great surprise, the film was incredibly powerful and universal.
